How to convert a Word document to PDF in your browser
Turn any .docx file into a clean PDF using File Utils Word to PDF converter. No uploads, no sign-up — your document never leaves your device.
Convert Word to PDF instantly
Need to share a Word document as a PDF? The Word to PDF tool handles the conversion entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded to a server.
How it works
- Open Word to PDF.
- Drag and drop your
.docxfile onto the drop zone, or click to browse. - Click Convert to PDF.
- Preview the result and click Download.
The tool parses the document structure — headings, paragraphs, lists, bold, italic — and renders it into a paginated A4 PDF.
What gets converted
| Element | Supported |
|---|---|
| Headings (H1–H6) | Yes |
| Paragraphs & line breaks | Yes |
| Bold, italic, underline | Yes |
| Bulleted & numbered lists | Yes |
| Hyperlinks | Yes |
| Tables (basic) | Yes |
| Embedded images | Yes |
| Headers & footers | Partial |
| Complex columns / text boxes | Limited |
| Macros / VBA | No |
For documents with complex multi-column layouts, the output may reflow into a single-column format. This is a trade-off of fully client-side conversion.
When to use this tool
- Sharing documents: PDF is the universal read-only format. Recipients see exactly the same layout regardless of their device.
- Archiving: PDFs are more stable for long-term storage than
.docxfiles that depend on specific Word versions. - Quick review: Convert and preview without installing Microsoft Office or any desktop app.
Privacy advantage
Unlike online converters that upload your document to a remote server, this tool processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your file content is never transmitted anywhere.
Tips for best results
- Keep formatting simple: Documents with straightforward text, headings, and lists produce the cleanest PDFs.
- Check embedded images: Large images are included at their original resolution. If the PDF is too large, compress images beforehand with the Image Compressor.
- Use .docx format: The tool accepts
.docx(Office Open XML) only — older.docfiles must be re-saved as.docxfirst.
FAQ
Does it handle password-protected Word files?
No. Remove the password in Word first, then convert. If you want to add a password to the output PDF, use Protect PDF.
Can I convert multiple Word files at once?
Currently the tool converts one file at a time. To merge several Word documents into a single PDF, convert each separately and then combine them with PDF Merger.
What about .doc files?
Only .docx (the modern XML-based format) is supported. Open the .doc file in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice and save as .docx first.
